Short answer
How do Claude Code usage limits work?
Claude Pro and Max plans have three usage limits: a 5-hour session limit, a weekly limit across all models, and a separate weekly limit for some models, right now Fable. You can check them at claude.ai/settings/usage or with the /usage command in Claude Code. Headroom keeps all three in your Mac menu bar, with how much is left and the time until each one resets.

The limits
What limits does Claude Code have?
Three, on Pro and Max. Claude names them on its usage page; Headroom gives each one its own row, with what's left and when it resets.
The 5-hour limit. It resets when its 5-hour window ends.
The weekly limit across all models. It resets once a week.
A separate weekly limit that covers Fable only.
The limits as Claude shows them in October 2026. Readings are illustrative.
What Headroom shows
Every limit, its pace and its reset.
Headroom reads the limits on your Claude plan and lays each one out like the app's menu: what's left, an even-pace mark and when it resets.
The tick is an even pace: 45% left with 2h 14m to go.
Ahead or behind, at a glance
The tick on a bar marks an even pace through its window. Headroom tells you how many points you're ahead of it, or behind.
Fable gets its own line
The per-model weekly limit sits under Weekly. Hide it in Settings › Menu bar if you don't need it.
More than one Claude account
Add another Claude account next to your first. Each keeps its own limits and resets.
Alerts before you run low
A heads-up when a limit gets low, and a last call before it runs out.
History
Where did your Claude Code tokens go?
Headroom reads Claude Code's own logs on your Mac: tokens by model and project, with an estimated API-equivalent cost.
Read from ~/.claude/projects on this Mac. Cost is an estimated API equivalent, not what your plan charges. Illustrative data.

02 / 10
When does my Claude limit reset?
The session limit resets when its 5-hour window ends, and the weekly limits reset once a week. Headroom shows the time left until each reset, right in your menu bar.

What is the Fable weekly limit?
A separate weekly limit that covers one model, Fable, next to the weekly limit across all models. Claude shows it as “Fable this week”. Headroom gives it its own line in the menu, and you can hide that line in Settings › Menu bar.

What do “ahead” and “behind” mean in Headroom?
They compare what you've used with an even pace through the window. “13 ahead” means 13 percentage points less used than an even pace; “12 behind” means 12 more. The tick on a bar marks that even pace.
